Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink! 

در دوران کودکی ما تازه یک رشته سیم برق به شهر ما آمده بود و فقط نور آن تا پایین تیر چراغ میرسید.  در آن زمان که نهر آب از میان خانه ما رد میشد وبه خانه همسایه میرفت، روزی مادرم گفت:

 

"همانطور که سوی چراغ را توی ( گلوپ ) ها  کردند وبما میفروشند، روزی هم جلوی این آب را میگیرند و توی سبو میکنند و ( کفتو ، کفتو ) بما میفروشند.  چه خوب است که من آنموقع زنده نباشم تا این وضع را ببینم."

 

مهاجرت به پایتخت و خریدن آب ( شاه ) از بشکه های زرد حساب اورا کلافه می کرد، اما باز هنوز میتوانستیم درون حوض بزرگ غلطی بزنیم و تنی به آب بسپاریم.  وچه کسی به حرفهای او گوش میکرد؟ زمان داشت به جلو خیز برمیداشت!

 

امروز خوشحالم که نیست تا ببیند آب نه تنها درسبو نیست بلکه در ظرف های پلاستیکی در مغازه ها بما عرضه میشود.  دیگر نمیتوان مثلها را به آب زد ، آب حکم کیمیا را پیدا کرده و روزی خواهد رسید که جنگ نفت  واتم تمام شده وجنگ آب شروع شود.

 

اروپا دچار بی آبی است. جزیره وشبه جزیره میان اقیانوسهای پر آب !! اما آب جیره بندی شده، البته فقط برای آنها که باید فرمانبر باشند.  والا استخرها، اصطبلها، سگ دانیها و زمینهای گلف و زیر کشت همیشه ( آب ) دارند.

 

دستور میدهند که ظروف خود را کمتر بشویید، لابد باید آنهار را لیس بزنیم و اگر سگ داریم از او هم کمک بگیریم.  سیفونهای توالت را نکشید، و صبرکنید تا بوی گند که همه جار ا فرا گرفت آنوقت آهسته بکشید.  والا هرچی دیدید از چشم خودتان است.  الهی شکر که من اتومبیل ندارم تا مجبور نباشم آنرا بشویم، لابد آنرا هم مانند ظروف میبایست بلیسم.

‘Even if we have had less rainfall per person than the Sudan, which I doubt, we have more than enough water in London. There would be no need for the meters Ken Livingstone suggested yesterday, or for tankers to bring it in at enormous cost, if what water we had didn’t pour away through decrepit pipes. 

 

Every day, 915 million litres of good, clean water – purified at public expense and ready to drink – leaks from the system. That is enough to supply 2.8 million homes, or fill 366 Olympic pools. That’s 10,590 litres of water squandered every second. And this wicked waste of a precious resource has been getting worse. Since 2001, the leakage rate in London has gone up by 32 per cent. 

 

The numbers are so large they are hard to get a purchase on. The best way I know of putting them into perspective is by comparing Thames Water’s managers to the Sicilian Mafia. For decades, the mob has been stealing the money meant for new reservoirs and pipes in Sicily. When cities such as Palermo run short, the dons steal again by selling their citizens water from springs on their estates at inflated prices. So great is the scandal, the Sicilian Left-wing parties recently stood for election on the slogan, “Water in Every House! No to the Mafia!” Their killer fact was that 40 per cent of Palermo’s water vanishes through leaking pipes. 

 

Meanwhile, back home, 40 per cent of London’s water vanishes through leaking pipes, and Thames Water isn’t even run by gangsters – though when it announced yesterday that shareholders were pocketing a 17 per cent rise in profits while it inflicted rationing on its customers, you may have assumed that it was.’
